Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde was involved in a fracas with Villarreal’s Alex Baena back in April.
Valverde claimed that Baena insulted his pregnant wife at the time, but Baena denied the claim.
Valverde reportedly punched the Villarreal man in the face in the car park for alleged derogatory comments about his wife and a child.
Valverde has now been slapped with a five-game ban in the La Liga for punching Villarreal’s Alex Baena following the recommendation by a judge to La Liga Competition Committee, per AS.
Real Madrid are set to appeal the decision of the competition committee.
Madrid’s argument will be centred around a lack of substantial evidence about the case. They will also argue about a lack of consistency with La Liga disciplinary measures when compared to racist incidents suffered by Real Madrid players like Vinicius Jr.
Valverde would miss the games against Getafe, Athletic, Almeria, Celta Vigo and Real Sociedad, if the ban is permitted.
