Report: Real Madrid star planning to take over penalty duties after Karim Benzema departure

Since the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema took up the penalty role at Real Madrid, and was as well very good at it.

Following Benzema’s move to Saudi Arabia, Real Madrid are set to have a new penalty taker next season.

According to Diario AS, Vinicius Jr is now planning to take over the responsibility of penalties.

The Spanish publication adds that the 23-year-old has been staying late on the pitch to practise penalties.

Vinicius Jr joined Real Madrid in 2018, and initially struggled as a young teenager.

The forward has however turned into a world class player, and formed a formidable partnership with Benzema over the past two years.

Vinicius scored 22 goals in the 2021-22 season and 23 in the past season.

Now 23, the Brazilian is ready to become the star of the team, and has been handed the iconic No. 7 shirt ahead of  the 2023/24 campaign.
