Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has hinted that he’d field a different formation this new season.
Ancelotti has largely fielded a 4-3-3 formation during his time at the club, but is preparing a 4-4-2 formation for the new campaign.
It didn’t work pretty well in the friendly against AC Milan, and the Real Madrid boss has stated that if the team would actually go back to a 4-3-3, Rodrygo will play as the central striker.
Ancelotti said after the AC Milan game: “If we’re going to play 4-3-3, my central striker is Rodrygo, who did it brilliantly last season.
“On the left we’ve got Arda Güler and Valverde. We could also play with a number 10 and a central striker, like Bellingham and Rodrygo.”
The Italian also admitted that the team will have to press better for the diamond system to work.
He said: “We have to try and press higher up. With the diamond in the centre of the park, we press more through the middle.
“It’s not the greatest system from a defensive point of view but I have to adapt to the players and find a balance between defence and attack.”
