Carlo Ancelotti reveals only reason he’d change 4-4-2 formation

Carlo Ancelotti has been training his team in a 4-4-2 formation ahead of the new season.

While the system yielded results against Manchester United and AC Milan, the Los Blancos lost to Barcelona and Juventus, conceding six goals in those two matches.

Ancelotti believes the new system which he used back then as AC Milan manager will work, but has insisted that he may have to revert back to a 4-3-3, if the players aren’t comfortable with it.

There’s an argument that the pace and danger of Vinicius Jr from the left flank is no longer there under this new system.

Ancelotti has said: “We will only change it [the 4-4-2 formation] if the players are not comfortable.

“It seems good to me not to have a fixed system, it allows us to have the opportunity to vary.”
