Real Madrid have a very rich midfield, and it’s the position with the most squad depth.
Carlo Ancelotti fielded a very youthful squad in the season-opener against Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames over the weekend.
Veteran midfield duo Toni Kroos and Luka Modric were left on the bench, as Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde and new signing Jude Bellingham started in Ancelotti’s new-look 4-4-2 formation.
It was a positive performance without the experience of Kroos and Modric, who both entered the pitch in the second-half.
Should we expect them to be substitute players this season?
Carlo Ancelotti said: “They’re part of a squad that has a lot of quality. I can’t say that they’re going to be substitutes.
“They’re very important players. I’ve chosen this line-up today, but I might change it next week.”
