Real Madrid veteran midfielder Luka Modric is yet to start a game this season, and has come in as a substitute in two La Liga games so far.

Toni Kroos was on the bench for the opening game against Athletic Bilbao, but started in the game against Almeria.

Carlo Ancelotti has now made it clear that the veteran duo will actually play less this season, as he has so far assembled a very youthful midfield.

Carlo Ancelotti said after the game against Almeria: “Kroos put in a very good display with the ball, he showed real control.

“Modrić also managed the ball and the stages of the game brilliantly when he came on. They [Modric and Kroos] will still have a very important role to play, but it may be that they play fewer minutes, I’m not sure.”
