Rodrygo nearly cost the team against Celta Vigo, as the Los Blancos managed to win the tie 1-0, courtesy of a late Jude Bellingham goal.
Real Madrid had a second-half penalty that was scuffed by Rodrygo, much to the anger of manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Speaking after the game, Ancelotti revealed why he was angry after the penalty miss. According to the Italian, he passed instructions on who to take the penalty, and it wasn’t Rodrygo.
Ancelotti wanted Luka Modric to take the penalty.
Ancelotti said: “There’s no leeway. I don’t know what happened. I told Valverde that Modrić should take the penalty and I don’t know what happened between them.
“Vini wasn’t there, he was the one who was supposed to take it. They decided that Rodrygo should take it because I don’t think Valverde was able to tell Modrić that he should have taken it.
“It angered me a bit, but it could have been a misunderstanding. I don’t think Valverde had time to tell them, I’ll look into it in the next few days”.
Some fans have blamed Rodrygo for taking on the responsibility without consulting Modric who was the senior player on the pitch.
However, according to Diario AS, Rodrygo looked at Modric who clearly told him to shoot it. “Shoot it yourself,” Modric told the Brazilian.
