Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has towed a surprise path this season, as veteran midfield duo Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are now fringe players in the squad.
Kroos has started only one game this season, while Modric is yet to make a starting appearance.
This seems strange for the two veterans who have been key players at the club for many years – even last season.
Reports claim that the veteran midfielders aren’t happy with the state of things.
Marca’s Jose Felix Diaz, has reported that Carlo Ancelotti has had a ‘special talk’ with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
Ancelotti reportedly assured the veterans that they will still play a crucial role this season, especially when the fixture schedule becomes tight, with the team playing two games a week.
Ancelotti however emphasised the importance of the role given to Real Madrid’s younger midfielders this season, explaining that there is an ongoing generational change at the club.
While Kroos and Modric are phasing out, the likes of Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni should be set to take over on the big stage.
