Real Madrid struggle at the Wanda Metropolitano

Real Madrid were beaten 3-1 by Atletico at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Having had a perfect start to the season, the Los Blancos were favourites heading to the Madrid derby.

Carlo Ancelotti opted to start veteran midfielders Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. However, it was to no avail, as a very organised Atletico Madrid side seemed too strong for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

18 minutes into the game, Atletico were already 2-0 up, with Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann scoring the goals.

Real Madrid started to pile on the pressure, and Toni Kroos scored with a fine shot in the 35th minute.

Real Madrid sought for an equaliser, but for all the pressure, the home team got the next goal at the Wanda Metropolitano just immediately after the restart, to make it 3-1.

The game was literally over after Atletico punctured Real Madrid’s hope with an early second-half goal.

Real have now lost their lead at the top of the table, and are now third on the log, behind leaders Barcelona, and second placed Girona.
