Not many expected Real Madrid to play out a goalless draw with Rayo Vallecano at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday night.
Despite all the chances created, the team couldn’t find a way to score.
Speaking after the game, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti admitted he was pleased with the performance but not the result, and blamed the draw on his side’s lack of clinical finishing.
Ancelotti said: “We’re disappointed with the result, not with the game. You win games you don’t deserve to win and sometimes you don’t win games you do deserve to win.
“This was a game we deserved to win. We’ve had other games that we didn’t deserve to win. We’re in the fight for La Liga and we’re doing very well in the Champions League. There’s no need for drama, but rather confidence in the things we’re doing well, like today, as we didn’t do things wrong against Rayo Vallecano.”
On the team’s style of play, he further stated: “We forced it down the left wing in the first half, accumulating a lot of players and we should have taken more advantage of the right wing.
“We then created a lot of dangerous positions in the second half from the right. The only thing I said to the players at the end of the first half was that we had to play down the right more.
“We’ve got a lot of attacking options. Bellingham didn’t get into good scoring positions, but Valverde, Rodrygo, Joselu and Vinicius created them. We lacked a little bit of clinical finishing today.”
