Carlo Ancelotti has admitted he has been unfair to Luka Modric this season, as the 38-year-old has managed about 45 minutes in the last two games.

The veteran midfielder came on for Federico Valverde in the hour mark against Valencia, and was a late substitute in the Champions League tie against Braga.

Speaking about the midfielder who was a key player last season, Ancelotti said: “Luka Modric should have started today, I’ve been unfair.  

“This is what happens when you have such a quality squad.”
