Real Madrid defender David Alaba got off injured in the first half of the game against Villarreal.
Alaba has suffered an ACL injury that will keep him out until at least the end of the season.
Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has sent a message of support to the Austrian international.
“Stay strong 🙏🏻” Robert Lewandowski wrote on Instagram, tagging David Alaba and pinning a pic from one of the Clasicos.
Alaba and Lewandowski were teammates at Bayern Munich, and played together at Bayern for 7 years. They won many titles together.
In fact, Lewandowski and Alaba made an impressive 265 appearances alongside each other, combining in 7 goals together.
Reacting to Alaba’s injury, Lewandowski said: “I haven’t spoken with him. The medical report says he’s ruptured his cruciate ligament.
“We’re really sad about it because he’s another player we’ll lose. I’ve never had three of my players get cruciate injuries within three months.
“What the team has to do is exactly what it’s been doing so far, with all the injuries we’ve had. We’ve done more than what anyone believed we were capable of. Despite the problems, this team fights, digs in, plays some great football and shows extraordinary commitment.
“That’s the only way to fill in for all the guys who are out injured. We’ll see what can be done in the coming days.”
