Real Madrid are among the pioneers of the European Super League, which has brought about much controversies in the world of football.
The European Court of Justice have finally given verdict on the matter, ruling on UEFA and FIFA’s monopoly. The court’s decision now paves the way for the potential creation of the European Super League.
A happy Florentino Perez has reacted to the ruling, thus: “At Real Madrid, we welcome the decision with great satisfaction. In the next few days, we will carefully study the reach of this verdict, but we expect two huge outcomes for the history of football.
“Firstly, European football is and never will be monopolised, and secondly, from this point on, clubs will be the masters of their own destiny. As clubs, we finally have a right to propose and launch European competitions that will modernise our game and attract fans from all over the world. Today, the liberty, football, and its fans have triumphed.
“After two years of pressure, reason and liberty have prevailed. Just like how we took a huge leap forward 70 years ago with the creation of the European Cup, now we again have the duty and responsibility to give European football the push it needs.
“To do that, we will continue to defend a modern project, compatible with national competitions, open to all, based on merit, and that will effectively impose Financial Fair Play. A project that will attract economic sustainability for all clubs, and that will, above all, protect the players and enthuse fans all over the world.”
