Real Madrid reach final of Supercopa after semi-final drama

Real Madrid are through to the final of the Supercopa, but it was a difficult game against Atletico Madrid.

Diego Simeone’s side opened the scoring in the 6th minute, with Mario Hermoso heading in from a corner.

16 minutes later, Antonio Rudiger equalised for Real, from a corner kick as well.

Just before the half-hour mark, Ferland Mendy put Madrid in front, but the lead didn’t last long as a solo effort from Antoine Griezmann levelled the scores 8 minutes later.

Both sides went into half-time with the score at 2-2.

Real Madrid slightly edged the second-half, and Dani Carvajal had a glaring chance but was denied in the 71st minute, as Real Madrid tried to capitalise on a quick free-kick.

A mix-up between goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and Antonio Rudiger saw Atletico take the lead, with the ball deflecting off Rudiger into the net, late in the game.

Real continued to mount pressure, and Dani Carvajal finally got his goal in the 85th minute following a barrage of chances within quick seconds.

Real would then score two late goals late in the second-half of extra time, to seal a 5-3 victory. Stefan Savic conceded an own goal in 116 minute, before Brahim Diaz sealed the win in stoppage time.

Real Madrid are through to the final, and will face the winner of Barcelona vs Osasuna in the other semi-final clash.
