Carlo Ancelotti was a relieved man, as Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid 5-3 after extra time on Wednesday night.
A horrible mistake from Kepa Arrizabalaga led to Atletico’s third goal late in the game, but Dani Carvajal would score an 85th minute leveller to send the game to extra time.
Real would go on to win the tie in extra time, scoring two more goals.
Speaking after the game, Carlo Ancelotti hailed the team’s DNA as the reason for such fighting spirit.
“My Real Madrid team never gives up. It is the DNA of Real Madrid and a good learning experience for young players,” Carlo Ancelotti told the media after the game.
“We could’ve lost the game, but we never give up. The team was very happy and we have to be calm because it was a game with a lot of emotions. There are 90 minutes left to win the title and that is the objective.
“I have a lot of confidence in the squad because those who have come on from the bench also give confidence. The staff is very motivated and engaged.
“That’s the only way to win these types of games.”
