Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has said his team will not partake in a guard of honour for Real Madrid in the Copa Del Rey clash at the Metropolitano Stadium on Thursday night.
Real go to Atletico shortly after winning the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday.
Simeone has delivered his press conference ahead of the tie.
Simeone said: “It is clear that it’s not just another game because it also has a tie in between, there is no margin for any. We need our people, that the environment is as it usually is in the Metropolitano and that we can transmit energy to the fans so that they can accompany us.
“We are going to look for situations where we believe that we can harm them and they arrive with the positive energy after winning the Super Cup right after two big games. They have a lot of enthusiasm, a very positive dynamic … we are going to find a very good rival.”
On the guard of honour, he added: “Our opinion has not changed since the last time. Yes there will be great respect and a great greeting to the coach and his staff, how can it be otherwise, but our people come first and we respect our people.”
Speaking about the guard of honour, an indifferent Carlo Ancelotti said: “I respect the decisions of every club. I think it’s perfectly fine whether they do it or not. I don’t attach much importance to this. Everyone does what they want and Real Madrid do things differently. I stay out of this. If we are able to choose, we’ll choose what’s best for us.”
