Real Madrid overtakes Manchester City

Real Madrid has reclaimed the top spot in the Deloitte Football Money League for the 2022-23 season, surpassing Manchester City.

Real Madrid generated a total revenue of €831 million, which is an increase of €118 million over the previous year.

This growth is attributed to strong retail performance, higher stadium attendance, and recovery of sponsorship income.

Manchester City, which held the top position for the last two years, is now second with a revenue of €826 million, still marking their highest ever revenue for a season.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has broken into the top three, followed by Barcelona, which moved up from seventh to fourth. Manchester United slipped one place to fifth.

Commercial revenue has become the largest income stream for clubs for the first time since the 2015-16 season (excluding the COVID-19 impacted 2019-20 season).

The total revenue generated by the Money League clubs in 2022-23 is a record €10.5 billion, a 14% increase over the previous year.

The report also highlights the financial growth in women’s football, with Barcelona’s women’s team topping the revenue list at €13.4 million, followed by Manchester United, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Arsenal.
