Brahim Diaz started the game against Atletico Madrid on short notice following Vinicius’ injury.
The 24-year-old put in a good display and scored the Los Blancos only goal of the game in the 20th minute.
The Santiago Bernabeu crowd rose to their feet in applause for Brahim when Carlo Ancelotti decided to take him off for Joselu in the 71st minute.
Speaking after the game, Diaz thanked the Madrid fans as he said: “I am very grateful to all the fans today. They have pushed and been behind us, always very grateful for the love.
The forward admitted he had a good game as well.
“My game was good, I’m happy for scoring the goal but a little upset about the draw,” Brahim added.
Diaz was named man of the match, but cut a frustrated figure at full-time, as his goal wasn’t enough to get a win.
“The result left a bitter taste in the mouth at the end because they tied us in the last minute,” Brahim told reporters.
“We did an impeccable job, we played very well and I think we dominated the entire game.
“The draw makes the great work we have done today less visible. But this team is incredible and this will give us even more strength.
“We deserved to win. This is football and this tie gives us even more strength because we know what we are capable of.
“We have to continue like this because we are at a very good level.”
