Real Madrid release statement about controversial refereeing decision

Real Madrid came from behind to play a 2-2 draw with Valencia, but it’s a game that the Los Blancos could have won 3-2.

In the final minute of the game, referee Gil Manzano decided to blow the full-time whistle while a cross was being delivered by Brahim Diaz, which was eventually converted by Jude Bellingham.

Real Madrid have released a statement about the controversial decision.

“An unprecedented refereeing decision by Gil Manzano prevented Real Madrid’s victory against Valencia at Mestalla,” Real Madrid said in a statement posted on their website.

“With the score at 2-2 and in the last play of the game, Brahim [Diaz] crossed into the area and Bellingham finished off with a header making it 2-3.

“But the referee annulled the goal by signalling the end of the match when the Malaga native’s [Diaz] pass went through the air. The league leaders deserved the three points but added only one in a match that they were losing 2-0.

“Two goals from Vini[cius] Jr tied the duel, finally resolved with the decision of Gil Manzano.”

Jude Bellingham was also shown a red card for complaining to the referee.

Real Madrid will have appeal the red card decision or risk losing Bellingham for their next three games.
