Tedesco claimed he has been making efforts to reintegrate Courtois into the national team after the Real Madrid goalkeeper expressed dissatisfaction for not being named captain in the matches against Austria and Estonia last year.

Courtois responded to Tedesco’s remarks with a trio of Pinocchio emojis on social media, signaling he believes the coach is not telling the truth.

Despite not playing for Real Madrid this season due to a cruciate ligament injury, concerns are rising about Courtois’s future with the Belgium national team as the discord between him and Tedesco seems irreparable.

Courtois, who debuted for Belgium in 2011 and has since earned 102 caps, missed the games against Austria and Estonia, with Romelu Lukaku leading the team instead.

Courtois missed the game against Estonia, and Tedesco suggested that Courtois felt slighted by not being awarded the captaincy in the Austria match.

The potential for Courtois to represent Belgium again remains uncertain, especially with his expected absence from Euro 2024 due to injury.

Courtois has voiced his frustration over not being informed why he wasn’t appointed captain and has criticized Tedesco and the Belgian football federation for a lack of appreciation.

Meanwhile, Tedesco has secured a two-year contract extension to continue as Belgium’s manager until the 2026 World Cup.
