Real Madrid settled their Champions League quarter-final clash against Manchester City on penalties.

Both sides had played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu, before a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes at the Etihad Stadium.

Real Madrid ended up winning the tie 4-3 on penalties.

Andriy Lunin made saves to deny Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic, while Luka Modric missed for Real Madrid.

Many had ruled Real Madrid out of this tie, and even the bookmakers made Manchester City overwhelming favourites.

Carlo Ancelotti said at full-time: “I am proud. Never leave Real Madrid for dead. Real Madrid never dies.

“I have not been this nervous since the comeback against Chelsea. How do I stay so calm? Sorry, I have no energy left.

“Pep Guardiola congratulated us and wished us luck, he is a gentleman, as always.”
