Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric set a new La Liga record during Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Cadiz.

Modric started the victory over Cadiz which coupled with Barcelona’s defeat to Girona sealed a 36th La Liga title for Real Madrid.

While Real Madrid’s title victory will grab headlines, Modric achieved a personal milestone by becoming the oldest player to appear in a La Liga match for Madrid.

At 38 years, seven months, and 25 days old, Modric broke the record previously held by club legend Ferenc Puskas, who was 38 years, seven months, and 19 days old during his last appearance in Spain’s top division for Madrid.

Adding to his list of age-related accomplishments, Modric recently became the oldest player to compete for Madrid in the Champions League. This occurred when he substituted into the 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich during their semi-final first leg.

The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner made his 16th league start of the season in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Cadiz. He contributed an assist for Brahim Diaz’s opening goal in the 51st minute, which was followed by goals from Jude Bellingham and Joselu.
