Thibaut Courtois is yet to feature in the Champions League this season, having been out of action since last April due to injury.

Andriy Lunin has been incredible in Courtois absence, and was brilliant in the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich.

Courtois kept in the La Liga game against Cadiz, while Ancelotti stuck with Andriy Lunin for the Bayern game.

According to reports from The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana, Thibaut Courtois is the favourite to start the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.

Real Madrid ‘still see Courtois as the best goalkeeper in the world’, despite his long injury layoff.

Lunin has impressed this season, having conceded 28 goals in 30 appearances for Real Madrid this campaign, keeping 12 clean sheets. Courtois has only played once this term, at home against Cadiz, and looked sharp in that game.

Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas has urged Carlo Ancelotti to stick with Lunin for the Champions League final.

In response, Ancelotti said: “What a [Real] Madrid legend [Casillas] says is very respectable to me… but I don’t want to get into this [Lunin v Courtois] debate because I have a month to think about it.”
