Liverpool are reportedly preparing to shatter its own transfer record with a proposed £103 million bid for Real Madrid forward Rodrygo.

This bold move underscores Liverpool’s intent to revitalize its squad following the upcoming departure of manager Jurgen Klopp, who announced he would be taking a break from football at the end of the season.

Rodrygo, who has become an influential figure at Real Madrid, is seen as a key target for Liverpool as they anticipate major changes under the new managerial regime of Feyenoord’s Arne Slot. Michael Edwards has recently rejoined the club as FSG’s CEO of football, and Richard Hughes is set to take up the role of sporting director, moving from Bournemouth.

The interest in Rodrygo appears timely, as his role at Madrid may be impacted by the arrival of Kylian Mbappe, which could leave the Brazilian star with reduced playing time.

Liverpool’s initial offer of £103 million (€120 million), as reported by Eduardo Inda of OK Diario on El Chiringuito de Jugones, has been rejected by Real Madrid, who value Rodrygo highly.

Inda emphasized Madrid’s strong position on the matter: “The bidding club is Liverpool and the player is a player very similar to their style. We are talking about a Real Madrid winger and it is Rodrygo. Real Madrid’s refusal is emphatic because the board likes him a lot.”

This potential transfer would surpass Liverpool’s previous record of £85 million paid for Darwin Nunez from Benfica. The move for Rodrygo signifies Liverpool’s strategic intent to bolster its attacking options, especially with key players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk linked with moves away from Anfield this summer.
