Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has expressed his frustration with the officiating in his side’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, calling out the referee for failing to award what he described as a “clear penalty” for a foul on Vinicius Jr.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, Ancelotti did not hold back in his assessment of the incident, which occurred in the second half.
The Real Madrid winger was brought down inside the box after a challenge from a Rayo defender, but the referee waved away appeals for a spot-kick, much to the dismay of the Madrid bench and fans.
“The penalty on Vini is very clear,” Ancelotti said.
“I don’t understand why the referee didn’t see it that way. Decisions like these have a significant impact on the game, and it’s disappointing when they don’t go our way.”
