Real Madrid do not have a definite penalty taker, and it’s a move that has backfired of late, as there have been too frequent misses from the spot.
Jude Bellingham missed a crucial penalty against Valencia, but Madrid fortunately went on to win the game. Kylian Mbappe has also been unlucky with his penalties as well.
Carlo Ancelotti has now decided to take a stamp on who plays the penalty kick per game.
Ancelotti said: “What I didn’t like about the penalties was that we missed. I want to clarify the issue of the penalty takers because I don’t know who’s going to take it. I’m going to clarify it in each game before the game. It could be Vini, Bellingham, Mbappe, Arda… Let’s see how I feel.”
Ancelotti also stressed on the technical challenges involved in choosing penalty takers.
He added: “Penalties are a technical aspect that is very difficult to work on, because there are penalty takers who may be better than others, but what changes compared to the match is the atmosphere in the stadium.”
