Real Madrid secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Brest in their final Champions League group stage match but fell short of automatic qualification for the round of 16.

Despite their dominant performance, Los Blancos must now navigate a playoff to secure their place in the knockout rounds. Their potential opponents in this crucial two-legged tie are either Celtic or Manchester City.

Real Madrid goalkeeper remains unfazed at the thoughts of facing a major European giant so early in the knockout stage.

“That’s what I said. Our role is to be prepared and wait,” Thibaut Courtois said when asked about Real Madrid possibly facing Manchester City.

“We had to face them years ago and many times. If you want to win the Champions League, you must win against the best,” Courtois adds.

Reflecting on the game against Brest, Courtois said:

“Today it was not easy, but we defended well, we played well, we scored many goals and we are happy.

“We are now thinking about Espanyol. And to follow. We have many games to play in a short time.”
