Carlo Ancelotti has once again stepped into the spotlight ahead of Real Madrid’s highly anticipated derby clash against Atletico Madrid on Saturday night in the La Liga.

The Italian manager didn’t hold back when addressing recent controversies surrounding refereeing decisions, defending the club’s stance amidst growing scrutiny.

“Everyone says the system favours Madrid… but when we want to change it, everyone is against it,” Ancelotti stated firmly during his pre-match press conference. His words reflect the frustration within the club regarding the perception that Real Madrid receives preferential treatment, especially when the team dares to question officiating standards.

Ancelotti was clear in defending the club’s right to challenge refereeing decisions, emphasising that their inquiries are being unfairly targeted.

“All we did was ask for an explanation over some of the refereeing decisions. Of course, everyone is against it only because it is Real Madrid doing this,” he added, highlighting the unique scrutiny the club faces compared to others in similar situations.

Further pressing the issue, Ancelotti confirmed that Real Madrid is still waiting for an official response from both the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA). “Our complaint against referees? We have not received an answer from (RFEF and CTA), you should ask them why!” he said, leaving the responsibility on the governing bodies to explain the delay.

As the derby draws near, Ancelotti’s comments add extra fuel to an already fiery rivalry, while spotlighting the ongoing tension between Real Madrid and the football authorities.
