Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham has been handed a two-match suspension following his red card in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Osasuna.

The England international was sent off in stoppage time for allegedly using abusive language towards referee José Luis Munuera Montero.

Reports suggest Bellingham said “f*** you” to the official, though manager Carlo Ancelotti defended his player, stating that the 21-year-old had actually said “f*** off” without any intent to insult.

At the time of his dismissal, Los Blancos were leading 1-0, but they were ultimately forced to settle for a draw after Ante Budimir converted a late penalty for Osasuna.

There were initial concerns that the midfielder could face a much harsher punishment, with La Liga regulations allowing for bans of up to 12 matches for offensive language towards match officials. However, Real Madrid can breathe a sigh of relief as the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) disciplinary committee confirmed a two-match suspension.

The committee upheld the red card, citing Bellingham’s “attitudes of contempt or lack of consideration towards referees.” As a result, he will be unavailable for Real Madrid’s next two La Liga fixtures against Girona and Real Betis.

With Bellingham sidelined, Ancelotti will need to make tactical adjustments as Madrid look to maintain their title charge in his absence.
