Atletico Madrid legend Paulo Futre has criticised Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti over his recent comments on refereeing decisions, calling his stance contradictory and unbecoming of a top coach.
Speaking on El Programa de Ortega, Futre took issue with Ancelotti’s handling of controversial incidents in La Liga.
“What Carlo can’t do is say in a press conference that he didn’t see a clear penalty like the one against Celta Vigo, but then ten days later against Espanyol, he’s saying the VAR should’ve been called to send off their player,” Futre remarked.
The former Atletico icon expressed disappointment in the Italian coach’s words, suggesting they reflect a mentality that does not align with his usual standards.
“It pains me because he’s a great coach, but that response is a loser’s attitude – it’s not the Carlo Ancelotti we know,” he added.
Ancelotti, known for his composed demeanour and tactical brilliance, has rarely been one to stir controversy. However, these remarks from Futre add fuel to the ongoing debates about officiating in La Liga, particularly in high-stakes encounters involving Real Madrid.
