Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed he will be tuning in to watch Barcelona take on Atletico Madrid on Sunday night.

Speaking after his team’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Villarreal, Ancelotti made it clear that his primary focus was on his own side’s performance rather than their title rivals.

“Barcelona vs Atletico tomorrow? The important thing is that we [Madrid] won today,” Ancelotti said.

Despite the demanding 120-minute midweek battle in the Champions League, Los Blancos showed resilience to secure all three points at the Estadio de la Cerámica. The win sees Madrid move to the top of La Liga, at least temporarily, as they now await the outcome of the Barcelona-Atletico clash.

That doesn’t mean Ancelotti won’t be interested in the game, though. The Italian tactician admitted he will be watching the match as a fan of the sport.

“Of course I will watch that game because it will be entertaining. I’m a football fan,” he added.

With the international break following this weekend’s fixtures, Madrid will be hoping their time at the summit of La Liga remains intact once the dust settles.
