Federico Valverde was the hero for Real Madrid, as he scored a stunner in stoppage time to seal a massive 1-0 victory over Athletic Club.

Speaking after the game, the Uruguayan chose to hail goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois as one of the best in the world.

The Uruguayan praised the team’s defensive efforts and highlighted the importance of supporting goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who was relatively untested against Bilbao.

“I’m really proud of the work we’ve put in. It’s the result of hard work and the support of the goalkeepers who stay behind after training to help us practice, as well as the coaching staff who emphasise its importance,” Valverde said.

“It’s rewarding when things work out. It gives us a lot of confidence. First, we had to get the win, and then we focused on helping Tibu by making sure the opposition didn’t get many chances. He’s one of the best in the world, but we want to keep him as calm as possible and reduce the shots he faces.”
