Real Madrid’s fiery 3-1 Club World Cup victory over Pachuca took a controversial turn following a post-match incident involving Antonio Rudiger and Pachuca defender Gustavo Cabral.

The clash between the two players triggered FIFA’s anti-racism protocol, with Rudiger alleging he was racially abused. However, Cabral has strongly denied the accusation, insisting his words were misinterpreted.

Pachuca coach Jaime Lozano has defended his captain Gustavo Cabral, who was accused of making racist remarks towards Antonio Rudiger during their Club World Cup match against Real Madrid.

Speaking after the match, Lozano said: “I only found out now that you’re telling me. We haven’t spoken about this in the dressing room. I haven’t had the chance to speak with Cabral, so I can’t offer an explanation or a justification at this moment.”

He added: “Nothing justifies this sort of behaviour, but knowing Gustavo, I can say this has never happened before, not with him or any of our players in this league. I can put my hands in the fire for my captain.”

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso also responded to reports of racist abuse directed at Antonio Rudiger during the match, and chose to support the defender. “Toni told us something happened. The FIFA protocol has been activated, and it’s being investigated. We believe him. It’s unacceptable.”
