Luka Modric has bade an emotional farewell to Real Madrid after his final match for the club in the 4-0 defeat to PSG in the FIFA Club World Cup semifinal.
Modric who will now move to Serie A giants AC Milan, has marked the end of his 13-year legacy at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Modric leaves Madrid as a legend, and has won the most titles in the club’s history.
In an interview with Real Madrid TV, the 39-year-old Croatian captain said: “It’s been a long but unforgettable journey.
“This is my home, Madrid is my second home. I will need time to realise what I’ve achieved here. Real Madrid gave me everything. I’ll be grateful for all my life. I will be a Madridista forever.
Modric played 597 matches and won a record 28 trophies, including six Champions Leagues with the club, which for him is unbelievable.
“Being the player with the most titles at the best club in the history of football is something unbelievable,” he said.
“But it’s not just this. The love of the fans is its maximum.” He singled out the 2014 Champions League triumph, “La Decima,” as his favorite moment, noting, “Our dynasty started there.
“The way we won, it’s what Real Madrid is. Fight until the end, never give up.”
